I chose the following games. Phishing scams, id theft faceoff, beware of spyware, and laptop security. I chose these because these all have to do with keeping your computer safe. It’s a good thing to do because there are a lot of hackers out there that want your account information. Most of the things I already know. But what I didn’t know was about what to do with your laptop. Some of the things were helpful in keeping your laptop safe. Another thing I didn’t know was about the phishing scams. I didn’t know that if you get a lot of pop-ups, your computer might be infected with a phishing scam.

CHAPTER 6 LAB
October 16, 2008 by austingndrI would like to learn how to set up my own web page. I know some angles to take but those are just the basic. I know you need a domain name. You also need a web hosting company. This usually costs money. You will need to save your pages in the HTML format. Open Office and Microsoft Office are good tools to use when you save HTML documents. You will also need a web server to make you page function properly.
Section A
My personal computer fits in by using my laptop. I usually take it everywhere with me. You never know where there will be a wifi hotspot. I generally use my computer for everything. Sports, weather, news and a various amount of other things as well. I mainly use my computer to search things and I also like to help people that are not that familiar with the functions of the computer, like my parents.
Section B
I normally use a wireless connection. I use my laptop the majority of the time but sometimes I use my desktop. Something I never knew you could do is set up a wireless connection from a desktop. For some reason I just always thought that the desktop computer had to use a cable and it had to be connected into your cable jack coming out from your wall. I learned this procedure when we recently got service from AT&T. They use one big modem and router and it is all in one box and it runs out of garage. It is very fast and reliable so far. I am happy with their service.
Section E
I think you need to be aware of viruses. I have had these before. Some just slow down your computer but recently I had one the totally crashed my hard drive. I had to take it in and they had to install a brand new hard drive. I think these are the worst. You also have spyware and adware and various other types of security issues. i recommend AVG or Avant security programs. These work extremely well and they are also free.
CHAPTER 5 LAB
October 9, 2008 by austingndr1. The first step is to make sure your computer is wireless capable. If not, you will need to buy a wireless network adapter.
2. Make sure you have a modem and a wireless router.
3. Use all software CD’s that came with the router and run them.
4. Connect your wireless router to your modem. Plug in your internet cable in the back of the router from the modem. Plug the main ethernet cable from the modem into the phone jack if your using this type of connection. If your using a cable connection, plug in your cable from the modem into the cable jack in your wall.
5. Look at the lights on your router and make sure your getting a internet signal and see how strong it is.
6. Look for the setup wizard function. This is where you can configure your settings. One of the most important settings is the security of your wireless network. You need to make a password for your router so no one else can steal your signal furthermore slowing down your internet and connection speed. You will need an SSID for this setting as well. You can find the SSID in My Computer under general infromation about your computer.
7. After all these steps, you should be able to connect wireless connect to the internet.
I choose this type of network because I am familiar with it but I still need to learn alot about how to set it up. I have set them up in the past and I always run into trouble somewhere along the line. This assignment has helped me with some of those issues.
CHAPTER 4 LAB
October 2, 2008 by austingndrI would like explore the Macintosh operating system. I have used this system before but I don’t know too much about it. Each time I use it, it seems like I can’t locate certain things I want to do. Most businesses do not use this program so if I become an IT tech I will not use this platform that much but I still need to know how it works just in case. To get more familiar with Macintosh today I could search the internet to get a better concept of how this program works. In the future I could borrow someones computer for period of time, I could buy one, or I could have someone explain this program throughly.ch-4-lab3
ASSIGNMENT 2
September 28, 2008 by austingndrI found this assignment very interesting. I didn’t know a lot about these parts and what they did until this assignment. Tigerdirect.com was a huge resource for this assignment. That is where I found all these computer hardware and software devices. I had some problems with the picture uploading into wordpress at first but I figured it out.
My computer would cost $945.99. That seems a little high for a desktop computer. You can buy them a lot cheaper at several retail stores. I’m not exactly sure if I have every component in my post. I’m sure I am missing some minor things. If anyone reads this and has any suggestions, please let me know. I thought this assignment was very fun and it maybe have sparked an interest for me to do this one day. I know this would be a very challenging project in the future but I think it would also be rewarding as well.
